Roulette as often seemed like a very exciting game – the spin of the wheel, the clatter of the ball as it bounces into action and the opportunity to win big. There are many opportunities and ways to place a bet when playing roulette. On the surface it may seem simple, however, there are many levels to this game.
The name roulette comes from the French word for “little wheel”. The wheel and the board have 36 numbers, as well as a zero. Numbers one to 36 are colored red and black, starting with red on one. The numbers do not alternate in color, but are sectioned into sets of 12. On the board there are additional sections for betting. These include black and white, even and odd, rows one to three, and various sections of number selections.
The Basics of Playing
Roulette is played by placing a bet on the board and then spinning the wheel and releasing the ball into the wheel. When the ball and wheel come to a stop, this is considered the play. You win or lose depending on where the ball lands within the wheel. It may seem like a game of pure chance, however, there are ways to improve your odds of winning.
It’s important to note that there are slightly different rules depending on where you are playing in the world like from Canada or other country. These tend to be split into European rules and North American rules. It is worth asking before you start playing which rules are being used.
Placing Your Bets
A roulette wheel has a smooth track around the outside that ball is released into. The dealer will set the wheel in motion and then release the ball into the track. During this time, all players must place their bets. As the ball drops from the track into the segmented section of the wheel where the numbers are, the dealer will close betting for that round.
As a player, you can choose between an inside bet and an outside bet. Inside bets are when you place your bet on one or more of the numbers. Outside bets are when you place a bet on one of the categories that fall outside of the numbers one to 36. You can place more than one bet per round, you can even place bets on both inside and outside categories.
Outside beds tend to give you more opportunity to win as you are selecting either a group of numbers, one of the colors, one of the rows, or odd or even numbers. However, these bets do not always payout as well. This is because the odds of winning are higher.
When selecting one of the numbers as your bet, the odds of winning are much lower, which means a higher payout should you hit the winning number. On inside bets, you can choose more than one number. This does dilute your winnings should one of these numbers come up but it gives you more chances of winning.
